August 5, 2016
Greetings Mohawk families,
As summer nears the end, I hope everyone is getting excited to return to Mohawk to see all the great things that the 2016-2017 school year will bring. This year will be “Simply the Best!”
Throughout the year, Mohawk is going to put emphasis on 2 main ideas. We are going to embrace, even more than before, the vision of Richardson ISD. This vision statement reads, “Where all students learn, grow, and succeed.” Within that vision statement, our main focus will be on the word “grow”. Here in RISD, we believe that all staff and all students have the potential to set goals and flourish. We are going to begin this year focusing on ways to ensure that ALL children, no matter where they start in August, make a year’s growth. Staff, myself included, will focus on goal setting through our new evaluation system so that we too can grow this year.
In addition to the RISD vision, Mohawk has embraced the theme “Simply the Best.” Mohawk has over 50 years of excellence and a reputation that is unshakeable. We want to focus on the fact that this campus has the BEST staff, students, and community. Without these groups of stellar individuals, we would not be who we are today. Our mission statement this year will be: Mohawk Believes in continued Excellence for Students and Teachers. I think you will be excited to see the ways we are implementing this theme into our every day routines.

Back to School Night Logistics:
This evening has changed from years past due to feedback from parents as well as staff. Teacher letters will be sent to families on Friday, August 12th notifying students of their classroom teacher for the fall. If for some reason you do not receive a letter the week of August 15th, please call the front office at 469- 593-6600.
On Friday, August 19th, from 4:30pm-6:00pm doors will be open for a come and go Meet the Teacher event. We invite students to go see their classroom, meet their teacher, find their locker, and learn what to expect that first day of school. There will not be a general meeting at this event.
Families will also have an opportunity to join the PTA and CHIEFS, pick up pre-ordered spirit wear, place an order for new spirit wear, and find out about student activities. To make the night even more streamlined, go to the PTA website at www.mohawkpta.org. Creating an account ahead of time will allow you to join PTA, contribute to the Annual Fund, update your directory information, sign up for the Colt Courier (our very important e-newsletter) and purchase spirit wear.
And finally, I’d like you to join me in welcoming new faces to our Mohawk staff.
