July 29, 2019Back to school season is upon us! New back packs, fresh lunch boxes, school supplies and teacher letters are floating around your minds. August 15th will be here before we know it and the Mohawk staff is actively preparing for the 2019-2020 school year.
Greetings Mohawk families,
Greetings Mohawk families,
Our theme this year is Let the Adventure Begin! This theme embodies exploration, discovery, and individuality. Here at Mohawk, we believe that every day has the potential to be a positive adventure. All staff recognizes elementary school forms lifelong impressions of learning, and we want Mohawk to be a place all kids are eager to attend. Our promise to you is that each decision we make will work towards creating an engaging, supportive, and inclusive adventure for all students. It’s going to be a great year!
In preparation for the first day of school, we have a few events planned. The first is on Tuesday, August 6th from 6:00-7:00pm for popsicles at Mimosa Park to meet our new Assistant Principal, Mr. Tim Benson. On Monday, August 12th we have many events! We will start the day with New Family Tours at 9:00am. If you know of a new family to Mohawk, please pass this along and tell them to email Lindsey.Dennis@risd.org so we can get them set up for a tour. Kinder 101 will be from 10:00-11:00am for all incoming Kindergarten students and their parents. Students will go to their teacher’s classroom to get acclimated while parents stay in the cafeteria to hear from Mohawk’s administration about what they can expect from school this year. Finally, we will welcome all families to Back to School Night from 4:30-6:00pm on Monday evening. Everyone is welcome to come see their classroom and meet their teacher. At this event, we will be selling grade level t-shirts for $10.00 (cash only). These shirts have the same design but are different colors for every grade level. This will be the shirt for Buddy Fun Day, Field Trips, Spirit Friday and other school events. Our hope is to minimize the amount of times you are asked to pay for another t-shirt. We are looking forward to all of these fun events!
As you are aware, school starts on a Thursday which is 2 days earlier than past years. This has impacted our back to school schedule for staff and has also shortened our timeline to get teacher letters in the mail. Our goal is to have the letters leave Mohawk no later than Wednesday, August 7th (first contract day for all staff) in hopes they will make it to your mailbox by Monday, August 12th or earlier. If for some reason your letter does not make it to you by Monday, please do not hesitate to call the front office at 469-593-6600 and we will share class assignments as well as email you a copy of the letter. Please be patient as we are on a tighter timeline and sometimes the mail is out of our control. This is a special tradition we love just as much as you do!
Some of you are going to receive letters from our brand-new teachers!! We are so excited to add these amazing people to our Mohawk family. Please help me give a warm welcome to our new staff as well as our veteran staff in new places.
