A Letter From the PTA President
Welcome! My name is Sara Harris and I will be the PTA president for the 2019- 2020 school year. I have 2 children at Mohawk, in 4th and 1st grade. My husband and I both attended RISD schools from kindergarten till graduation and we loved it so much we decided to raise our family here. We couldn’t be more grateful for the experience we’ve had at Mohawk. If this year will be your first year at Mohawk, I’m confident your family will be as happy as ours has been here.
PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association which means we’re here to create partnerships between the parents and teachers, focused on the students.
Studies prove when families are involved in their children’s learning both at home and at school, their children perform better in school. It’s really that simple. We’re here to help parents engage with Mohawk, because the more you’re involved, the more our Colts will benefit.
To that end, I am so excited for what’s in store this school year. We are streamlining our calendar by reducing the amount of general PTA meetings and changing the frequency of some other events. We will continue to have many of the favorite activities like Carnival, Art Fest and the Love Rocks Dance! We will also be introducing a new Mother/Son Event. Regardless, we can’t do any of this without you.
So the first step in this partnership is welcoming all of you and your families to PTA. To make this happen, please:
- Register your family (grandparents and neighbors are more than welcome too) for a PTA Membership
- While you’re here, please make a contribution to Annual Fund. Our PTA does not conduct fundraisers, so our budget for all of these activities and gifts to Mohawk depends on your generosity to the Annual Fund.
After that, the *options are endless* in ways you can serve and support our school. From being in the background or being up front, from at home or at the school, from a one-time event or a regular volunteer position – we would be so grateful for your involvement! Thank you for being involved in your child’s education.
I can’t wait to meet those of you I don’t know yet, and to see some familiar faces in the halls this year. I’m looking forward to working alongside our parents and teachers to create an awesome place for our Colts!
