Achievements 2014-2015


For Our Students and Families:

  • Hosted the Mohawk “Back to School Night” in August
  • Hosted Kindergarten Round Up and provided Buddy Families to Newcomers of all grades
  • Created a new PTA website as a resource to current and prospective families
  • Used our weekly newsletter, The Colt Courier, as a means to keep Mohawk families up to date on current school and PTA events
  • Used the PTA Facebook page as an additional tool to increase communication with Mohawk families
  • Published our annual Yearbook
  • Published our first-ever online directory
  • Hosted Multicultural Night
  • Dads and Donuts
  • Mother/Daughter BINGO Night
  • Hosted a Pumpkin Decorating Contest


Student Programs:

  • Participated in National PTA’s Reflection’s Program
  • Sponsored an assembly for Red Ribbon Week
  • Running Club
  • STAAR celebration popsicle party
  • 6th Grade graduation
  • Provided support and scholarships for 6th Grade Sky Ranch
  • Sponsored Artfest and a talent show


Parent Programs:

  • Hosted “Back to School Breakfast” Parent Coffee on the first day of school
  • Co-hosted the Parent Education Seminar, Sooner Than You Think-Simple Answers to Challenging Questions by Mary Flo Ridley
  • Hosted Parent Education speaker, James Munton-Cybersense: Think Before You Click
  • Hosted Parent Education speaker, Lorraine Brock, on “Getting Organized”
  • Hosted the viewing of The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia


 Teacher/Staff Appreciation:

  • Hosted a Back to School Teacher lunch
  • Gave teachers a small “back to school” gift
  • Provided a makeover for the teacher lounge
  • Provide cakes and gifts to celebrate birthdays
  • Provide staff meeting snacks
  • Provide teacher luncheons in November and February,
  • Provide a gift for the Counselor for National Counselor Week
  • Valentine gifts for teachers
  • Librarian gift for National Library Week
  • Gift for Principal for Principal Appreciation Day
  • Gifts for administrative assistants for Administrative Professional Day
  • Provide casseroles for all staff members during STAAR week (Operation Casserole)
  • Provide gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week
  • End of year breakfast
  • Provide monetary stipend for teachers to use for classroom needs
  • Provided a luncheon for the teachers and staff at the Christa McAuliffe Learning Center
  • Classroom funds for teachers through budget disbursements


Community Support/Outreach:

  • Hosted a Fall Family and Community Carnival
  • Sponsored a table, provided volunteers and collected books for the RISD Council of PTA’s Used Book Fair
  • Collected clothing and toiletry items and staffed the RISD Clothes Closet
  • Hosted a 50th Anniversary Party at the school for the community



  • Hosted Parties to Go around the neighborhood to raise money for PTA



  • One of 8 schools in RISD to be awarded “A Voice for Every Child” for having at least one PTA member for every student enrolled in our school!
  • One of 22 schools in the state of Texas to be awarded “A Voice for Every Child” for having at least one PTA member for every student enrolled in our school!
